The Cajun Country Revival
"Two Cajuns and an old time stringband walk into a bar…â€

How come one of Bath's most popular bands has never played The Bell?
Back in the day they were playing literally everywhere else so we left them to it. Nowadays they don't do so much, so a triumphal return to the city where they began seemed a great idea.

WE ARE SORRY BUT THIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED
Already featuring in that as-yet unwritten Walcot musical history book for creating Slow Twitch Fibres with a post-Korgi Andy Davis, Pete is something of a legendary musos’ muso over in Bristol, with everything from hardcore free jazz to soundtracks to idiosyncratic and witty songwriting to his credit. We think it’s the latter that will characterise today’s performance: band also featuring Andy, Eddie John and Valere Speranza.

Jackson
A product of the restlessly recombinant Bristol funk/jazz/soul scene, Jackson sprays colours from all over the musical spectrum onto the canvas, featuring faces that the truly alert will have seen before: Jack Baldus, Asian Hawk, Rich O’Brien, Joe Price and other hotshots. A very contemporary sound that is not afraid of its own intelligence, nor of shaking that thing or rocking it out. And already better than their acclaimed debut EP. More info and booking...

Walcot Nation Celebration!
It was 20 years ago today...
Walcot Nation Day festival - run by Bath Fringe, The Bell, and key local traders - was 20 years ago on the Sunday at the end of that year's Fringe. We reckon that's a major excuse for a party. Already confirmed: an afternoon of top local live music, events in the yard, archive film showings of past local misdemeanours, pop-up art, and the unpredictable. See our website and The Bell's for details nearer the time. More info and booking...

A festival perennial for 30-odd years and always a guarantee that summer is finally here - not least because they used to work the double-summer trip so beloved of performers with a strong antipodean connection. Celtic and tranced-out grooves, future primitive eco instincts and a shot of the mystic derived from their Planet Gong connection. Plenty have tried to copy but none hit it like they do. Carrington MacDuffie
plus Fraser Anderson
Austin Indie High Priestess includes Bath Fringe on her 50 date European Tour, described as Carol King meets Grace Jones
Fraser Anderson Hailed by Howard Thompson (Former Head of A&R, Elektra Records) as “the best singer-songwriter I’ve heard in a long time”, the BBC’s Bob Harris as a “truly beautiful voice” and by Rolling Stone Magazine as “one to keep an eye on”, Anderson is a “truly remarkable artist” (BBC Radio Wales). Likened to Damien Rice’s emotionality, Glen Hansard’s crafted storytelling, the intensity of Nick Drake and the lively humour of John Martyn, Anderson stands out in his own right.
If you haven’t heard Anderson’s music yet, you are in for a treat. Words fail to prepare you for the delicate warm and comforting tones of his voice

Moonshot
If you've wanted a serious c'mon everybody party in Bath or Bristol in the past couple of decades, there's been one name at the top of your shopping list. Horn-heavy Studio 1 ska and early reggae from the '60s is one of the world's favourite goodtimes recipes, and you'd have to walk a long way tonight to find it being done better than by this local institution, through whose ranks many of the city's top players have passed.

Louis Bingham & Griselda Sanderson
Way back in the '90s Gris Sanderson was one of the first people we heard taking the fusion of folk music and electronics out on the road as a working live band, and since then we've heard her get to grips with exotic instruments like the nyckelharpa, and traditions as far away from the frozen north as West Africa (with our friend Amadou) & Morocco. This here is a mother-and-son duo, drawing on their experiences from a travelling circus band all the way through to academia. Special stuff. More info and booking...

Slackjaw Theatre & Bath Fringe present:
Bath Night
Let us celebrate like the Romans! Socialize, drinks and entertainment!
It's a scratch session, it's a work-in-progress, it's a poetry theme, it's a stand-up challenge. Or just a toe in the water.
Tell us something about Bath (or a bath) in a few minutes. If you like, we can tell you what we thought about it. Or just applaud. We’re inviting some Theatre Industry people so the opinion will be better informed.
To put something in the pool tonight, EMail us on slackjawtheatre@gmail.com by May 10th.

Scott Lavene
Described as "a 21st century take on those maverick genius outsiders that Stiff Records used to release back in the punk wars" and unsurprisingly gaining plenty of 6 Music airtime, Lavene has inveigled himself onto The Bell's stage through the stratagem of grabbing a Bath band (the polyglot Port Erin) to provide the "wonk beats and scuzz riffs" upon which he writes his street stories.

Hodmadoddery
Hodmadoddery came together (and usually fell apart shortly afterwards) in a residency at a notorious local cider house here in Bath in the late 1980s. By the ‘90s we were actually getting quite good, the positive effects of switching to wine on the European Street Festival circuit. Nowadays we don’t run around quite as much as we used to, but that has allowed us to get some practice in and we have since clocked up 20-odd innings at Glastonbury. Folk circuit standards, Trad numbers, and the odd random who’d-ha’-thought-it ;-> More info and booking...
